Reggie Yates: The Insider, Ghana e-waste dump
Flicker Productions (BBC 3)
Reggie spends a week living in the Agbogbloshie rubbish dump near Accra in Ghana. An area touted as the world’s largest e-waste dump. Where the world illegally sends its toxic waste. He investigates the horrific conditions endured by locals who scavenge the site for any items or precious metals to sell on. Poisoning levels at the dump are at catastrophic levels due to the toxic materials released into the ground from the discarded electrical items. Reggie attempts to unearth who is responsible for the most toxic waste dump on earth, what can be done to clean it up, and whether the UK is complicit in sending its own waste to Agbogbloshie.
